How to choose hunting boots
But, what must have a great hunting boot?
Well, everything will depend of where you are hunting and what you are
trying to catch, thus features must be adapted to you on a particular ground and situation.
Overall a good boot must offer you protection. Strong, durable materials are necessary to keep your feet and ankles safe, the aim is to keep your skin intact and away of branches and thorns.
At the same time a good pair of boots must be lightweighted, especially if you are going for big game on abrupt terrain. Just imagine to walk and climb for hours with a very heavy pair of boots!
Durable, lightweight materials are necessary to achieve this feature same as for insulation.
Safety tips when using guns
So, let's remember some basic rules when hunting with firearms which will keep you and your hunting fellows safe.
1. Your gun is your world
When you are dealing with a firearm all your attention must be focussed on it. Conscience about gun status, people around you, targets on range as well other shooters in the area is necessary to avoid accidents.
Don't take anything for granted and check twice before doing anything with your gun, this way you assure a safe gun manipulation.
In case of doubt, abort and start from the beginning.
2. If you haven't seen an empty chamber, the gun is still unloaded
It's a common mistake to assume a gun is unloaded because another hunter said it or because there was a recent shot.
Everytime you are handling a gun it's necessary to double check the chamber to be sure it's empty, otherwise the weapon must be considered as loaded and handled as it.
Improper management and storing may lead to fatal accidents, so NEVE assume a firearm is unloaded unless you have verified it personally, if possible twice.
3. The muzzle towards a safe direction
It seems obvious to say, but inside a blind....
In group is better
If you love nature and wish to teach your kids respect for animals, environment and earth, a hunting excursion is a great chance to do it.
3. Increased communication capabilities
Even when you will wish to stay "unplugged" from civilization while hunting, in
case of an emergency more people represents increased communication capabilities, no only because there will be more cell phones and radio equipment, but also because a group might lead an expedition to find help if there's no way to communicate by phone or radio.
4. More eyes spotting
Four eyes see better than two, thus while more people your group have, more chances to find a game when spotting.
However there's also more people which might be detected by your game, then discipline is important to keep stealth when needed, otherwise one minor mistake from one member may lead to a groupal hunting fail.
First Aids for Hunters
And when things go wrong and someone got wounded, all the efforts must be focused on providing first aids, and evacuate the injured one if necessary.
On the field there will not be too many options for medical attention, thus only minor situations will be handled.
Minor cuts, lacerations or abrasions must be profusely cleaned with water, disinfected using proper antiseptics and covered with sterile gauze.
If required and there's proper trained personnel available on the field even some stitches might be applied if required, however it's highly recommended to seek medical advise as soon as possible when deep injuries required stitches are seen.
In those cases with active hemorrhage, digital compression or compressive bandages should be used, if it's not possible to stop bleeding, evacuation is required.
Wild sheep hunting tips
But you are there not for the landscapes but sheeps, so let's see a few tips which
will make your life easier out in the wilderness when you are trying to catch such a magnificent trophy as a wild sheep.
First of all, be ready to hike a lot. This is not a few hours hunting, but a long standing one, thus you must count with enough water and supplies to expend a couple of days out there. Perhaps you are lucky and a sheep cross your way before, but usually it takes several hours to reach the places where they inhabit.
Once there, be prepared to find a good spotting place. Wild sheeps will see you coming and will fly like the wind before you are able to make anything, thus you need a good spotting point and very good optics to have a good view of a wide area where sheeps will be pasturing.
